by my grandma
*pictures to come!
4 ½ c. brown sugar
½ c. margarine
1 t. vanilla
1c. canned milk
¼ t. salt
1. In a large pan ix sugar and butter, canned milk, and salt.
2. Cook over medium fire stirring until sugar is melted.
3. Cook until 238 degrees.
4. Remove from heat.
5. Let stand until lukewarm.
6. Add vanilla and beat until thick and looses its gloss.
Hints: after number 2 only stir when necessary.
Can also add a bit marshmallows or marshmallow cream.
I’ve read that corn syrup will make it creamier, but then you wont have the brown sugar/molasses taste. I’ve never tried it w/ corn syrup.
My grandmother gave this recipe to me when I was younger and I’ve used it for years.
